S2719DC, USB Type-C, doesn't work through CalDigit TS3 Plus dock
I've seen similar problems here and here.
In essence, the S2719DC works on all machines I've tested with all of the Thunderbolt/USB Type-C cables I possess if I connect it directly to the two laptop I have. However, the S2719DC doesn't work through a CalDigit TS3 Plus dock.
Here is what I've tried:
- WORKS: Latest MacBook Pro direct connection to S2719DC through USB Type-C
- WORKS: MSI GS65 Stealth direct connection to S2719DC through USB Type-C
- DOES NOT WORK: Latest MacBook Pro connection to S2719DC: Thunderbolt 3 --> CalDigit TS3 Plus --> S2719DC
- DOES NOT WORK: MSI GS65 Stealth Thunderbolt 3 --> CalDigit TS3 Plus --> S2719DC
I've tried the above on Apple Mac, Ubuntu LTS, Ubuntu 19.10, and Windows 10. I've downloaded drivers and the DDM (Dell Display Manager). Also, I've tried it on four different Thunderbolt 3 cables, and the above results remain the same. I know that these cables support USB Type-C/DisplayPort Alternate and they're all thunderbolt 3.
There were other things I tried with the CalDigit TS3+ with this setup, and a different non-Dell monitor, that did work. I'm starting to feel like there's a firmware problem within Dell S2719DC/U2719DC models that make a connection through a Thunderbolt 3 dock fail to work? I'm not really sure.
How do I get this working with a Thunderbolt 3 connection over a Thunderbolt 3 dock?

It turns out that the CalDigit TS3+ dock comes with old firmware. Updating to the latest firmware (version 44.1 as of this post) helped: everything works as intended. Instructions here: https://www.caldigit.com/updating-the-ts3-plus-firmware-via-macos-10-15/
Not a Dell problem, but I imagine this is going to cause lots of confusion and people might reach out to Dell.
