Upgrade 5810 Power Supply Extender Card

Hey Community,

I am looking to upgrade a 5810 with a Nvidia 2080 card and the card requires a 6 and 8 pin connection. I have upgraded the unit's power supply to 825 but my next problem is with the power supply extender card. The new power supply did not come with a new one and the current one that I have only has one 8 pin port and one spare SATA I could theoretically use. I'd rather not use the SATA. Is there other models of the extender card in the Dell inventory that I could purchase and have either two 8 pins or best case would be a 6 and 8 pin port on the card. I currently have the following:

M6NP2:

I have read this thread here but have not heard back from OP about what model extender card they have

https://www.dell.com/community/Precision-Fixed-Workstations/Single-GTX-1080ti-into-a-Precision-Tower-5810/m-p/6102897#M564

I also think that post is missing some info since a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter would not draw enough power if their card had two 6 pin ports

Hi @nickong ,

Same question here when I tried to add a RTX 2070 onto my T5600 with 825w PSU, and finally found that all power distribution board designed for specific model and not able to be upgraded.

Instead, I use an generic GPU 8pin to 8+6pin splitter like this, and now my system is running smoothly and stable even on benchmark stress test.

@bmcowboy

Isn't the 2070 only require an 8-pin? The 2080 I am trying to install has 6 and 8 pin on the card so I need two power sources from the power supply. Why did you need a splitter cable? Why not use 8 pin to 8 pin?

Simply because RTX 2070 like the one from Zotac that I'm using now require 6+8pin, not a single 8pin.

I now have realized the 825 PSU suggested in all the threads do not fit the 5810 that I have! I have a  RHHKV - 825W PSU but it does not fit into my 5810 and even once I finagle it in, the machine does not boot despite fitting in fine and connecting to the power distribution board. Is there a specific distribution board to work with 825 PSU. 685 PSU will not work in this instance. Was using some of these threads as reference:

Hi @nickong ,

RHHKV - 825w PSU for Dell Precision 5600

CVHT6 - Power distribution board for Dell Precision 5600

M6NP2 - Power distribution board for Dell Precision 5810

You can see that the two power distribution boards with different pin socket. They cannot be swapped with each other and RHHKV only works with the one for 5600.

The correct 825w PSU for your 5810 should be W1FJK or FT7T6.

Hi!

I’m having the same problem at the moment with my RTX 2080 TI and I wanted to know if the splitter will work because it is my understanding that since the card needs 250w and an 8-pin socket provides only 150w, the card might not work at full capacity (if it works at all)

Do you think I can replace the whole PSU and the card with a 3rd party PSU that has more VGA socket options?

Someone posted a review on Amazon saying that they were able to power a RX5700 using a 10pin to 8 pin (6×2) splitter. The description states that the cable is designed for the Dell 5820 but apparently it also works on  the 5810.

I didn't understand why you don't use the two power cables that come out of the source.
I have an RTX 2080 TI and I use it, no problem, with the 685 W power supply.

Is your system still working well on the set up you have?

Can you please send the set up from your 685 w psu to the external power ports on your rtx 2080ti?

I did not personally test the Amazon cable, I just shared the review from someone who did.

I use an EVGA SuperNOVA 550-1300 G5 G3 G2 8 PIN TO DUAL 8 pin 6+2 PCIE VGA Power Cable on my T5810 system to power a GTX 1070 and it works perfectly, had in for months.

I have T5810  that came with 685W PSU, PSU Extender # 0M6NP2, and I ordered an 825W RHHKV PSU off ebay per Green PC Gamers recommendation for the GTX 1080 Ti that I'm running in the box.

When I installed the 825W PSU I got no POST, no boot, no screen- no initial spin-up of the fans when the power cord is hooked up.  Does my problem lie with the extender card installed?

A side-by-side comparison of each PSU shows the different contact pin-out:

Does the extender card female receptacle need to match the contacts 1 for 1?  I have yet to find any reference to which part number is correct for the extender card, or whether the M6NP2 is correct and the PSU I got was just a dud.  Help is appreciated.

825W PSU should be enough for single CPU & single GPU system. Graded workstation PSUs have better efficiency and wider margins than average gaming units. And the most important, they have honest labeling. So those 800W from dell may be close to 950W from your PC store.

@gwaktekATX , I can confirm part number 0M6NP2 or M6NP2 is the correct power distribution board for your T5810.  I verified from a unit with 825w PSU (FT7T6).
