Precision 7510 Random Power Off on battery Thermal shutdown #M1004
Preface:
Yes, this is a 6 yr old 7510. No, this isn't like a 'shutdown' from Windows. A literal power off, but only while on battery.
Symptom:
The laptop will literally just power off randomly when on Battery power. While on A/C brick, or docking station, never powers off.
Backstory:
This has been my work horse machine for 6 yrs. I stopped traveling for work about 4 yrs ago and only recently decided that since I work from home 100% to build a desktop. SO, knowing the battery held virtually no charge (stat on docking station constantly), I purchased a brand new Genuine OE Dell replacement battery (MFKVP), upgraded the TPM to 2.0 and installed Windows 11. First time on battery, it lasted till the percentage was 60% and it powered off. Second time it powered off at 90%. Third time it didn't even last 2 mins. So thinking the battery was a dud, I contacted the seller, they sent me another brand new Genuine OE Dell battery, same behavior. Random power offs. Sometimes it won't make it past the UEFI boot circle, sometimes It'll get to the login screen, sometimes it'll get to where it's logged in.
Note: Only way to power it back on is to use brick or docking station, then it auto powers back on.
Troubleshooting:
Updated to latest BIOS 1.28.3 - same behavior
Tried Downgraded BIOS 1.27.3 and 1.26.3 - same behavior
Windows 10 (21H2/22H2) - same behavior
Windows 11 - same behavior
Ran Boot up hardware diagnostics (3/4 hrs) All hardware, fans, mem came back perfect working.
Completely tore down to the mobo, removed heatsink, cleaned off thermal grease and reapplied a better quality - same behavior
At this point I would think the next step would be to replace the CPU/GPU fans, but what boggles me is that the tests came back good, and it only happens on battery power.
Anyone got any other checks or tests to try?

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

To add as additional steps, I tried downgrading the Intel Thermal Platform and I get the same behavior as my original post;

Any other steps to get this to stop hard thermal shutdown?

I am facing a similar behavior. In my case, the laptop had a swollen battery. It was working but removed the battery and I only used it with the power cord for almost a year. Then, I got the battery replacement. The battery charges and it can be used without the power cord but it often does not start on battery only, or it starts and then shutdown immediately. In a rare case, it randoms shut down on battery and then when I start it again (only with the power cord) it says there was a temperature issue. It seems I am having a similar issue. It is strange to me that the termal issue only happens on battery. Did you solve this issue?
