Boot from external USB DVD

I am wanting to find an external USB DVD drive (preferably a writer) that I will be able to boot from. The GX270 has a USB boot enabled BIOS and works booting from a memory stick or external hdd, however I have been unsuccessful with my HP dvd300e. HP informed me that the drive is not usb boot compatible. Several other manufacturers of drives have been even less helpful - Sony don't know if their drives are (they're not - I've tested), Iomega suggested I can try it if I like but they don't support it (I took that to be a don't know). As such please answer the following:

Is the GX270 capable of booting from an external USB DVD drive?

If so, do Dell supply such a thing or can you recommend a compatible device?

If not, will there be a BIOS upgrade to enable this in future.

Thanks, Bill.

I would like to find DOS drivers that would allow me to use the DVD300e to make a Ghost image of my system that I could add to the Ghost boot disk?

I wonder if HP makes DOS drivers for a USB DVD?

The latest version of Ghost provides aspi usb and firewire drivers (aspiochi.sys, aspiuchi.sys and aspi1394.sys) which enable Ghost to write directly to the dvd300e. The Ghost boot disk utility will create a bootable floppy for you to do this.
