CD-DVD Rom Working Inproperly

I have a Dell Demension Desktop B110, and it has supposedly a CD and DVD Burner. Well anyways, It will read, play and burn a CD but will not, absolutely not read nor play a DVD. I have everything up to date supposedly. Any thoughts of wisdom on helping me here?

Look in the Device Manager and tell us the brand and model of the CD/DVD drive.

It is "HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H21N"

Driver Provider: Microsoft

Driver Date: 7/1/2001

Driver Version: 5.1.2535.0

Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Publisher

Is that what you needed to know ?

It is possible that the DVD laser has failed while the CD laser is still
functioning.

Run the Dell Diagnostics on the drive.  The Diagnostics should be on
your hard drive.  Press F12 at startup while the blue Dell is on the
screen.  This will take you to the boot menu where the Utility Partition
or Diagnostics will be a choice.  Run the Custom Test for the drive
and have a data DVD (not movie CD) ready for the read test.
