CD will not eject from Dell studio 1555
The CD dsic will not eject from my Dell Studio 1555. This is a slot-load drive--there is no emergency pin hole for a paper clip, the "eject" command from the device manager menu will not work, nor does holding the "eject" button on the keyboard while powering up. The drive makes a whirring noise like its spinning, then every few minutes tries to eject the disc with no success. Any sugestions?

Hi rewallace,
Welcome to the community.
It appears to be a hardware issue however you can try releasing the static power and then try ejecting the disc from the windows environment.
In order to release the static power, please try the following steps-
Please remove the battery and the AC Adapter from the system. Press and hold down power button pressed for 10 seconds.
Once the static power is removed, turn on the system. Click the start button and then click “Computer”. Once done, right click the optical drive and try ejecting the disc.
Let me know of the findings. Glad to be of assistance.

Well, I have the same problem with my Dell Studio 1555. The above solution didn't work. Can I manually separate the little silver thing in the drive to manually pull out the disc?
Thanks.

Hi,
If you have already tried to eject the DVD within the operating system, try to eject the DVD in BIOS. To do so, turn on the computer. When the Dell Splash screen appears, press F2 key. Push the eject button while the system is in BIOS utility. If the drive does not eject, try to update the Quick-set application from this link: http://dell.to/SHdVrP.
Follow these instructions to download and install the application:
Once done, try to eject the drive within Operating System. If the drive does not eject, it indicates a mechanical failure. You can disconnect the slot load drive from the system after which you will be able to access the CD/DVD which is stuck inside the drive. It is a field replaceable unit though; you may need a technician to disconnect the drive. Let me know if you are comfortable with re-seating components, I will help you with the steps.
Hope this helps.
Please reply if you have any further questions.

Hi maddysmith,
If the disc does not eject in the BIOS, then you in all likelihood need to replace the drive.

I have the same dell studio 15 1555 laptop, and windows is messed up and won't boot , and I have to use an external monitor because the screen is cracked really bad. My dvd I put it won't eject...I haven't tried to eject it from bios setup yet, but I will now. If that don't work then you say I need another dvd optical drive. My optical drive don't have a pin hole in front either. It's the type where you slide the disc into the slot.

Manpreet,
I have also had disk eject problems. The key on the laptop doesn't respond and so I have to go to "Computer" to eject disc. However, now that avenue is now not working because it doesn't recognize that there is even a disc in there. If disconnecting the load drive is what needs to be done to get the disc out I will need assistance with that. Can you help me?

If the drive reads discs but is not ejecting, then you really have no choice but to replace it unless you don't mind the hassle of the manual eject procedure.
