DVD+RW Drive doesn't read SACD (CD-Layer)

Hello

The DVD+RW Drive in my new Inspiron 8600 does not read the CD-Layer on any of my Super Audio CD SACD.

No problems so far with DVD's and CD's.

Is this a 'feature' or am I the ony person with this problem?

Thanks for your help!

I know this might be a very stupid question, but what does DVD+RW mean?

A DVD+RW drive can write and erase a disc complying with the DVD+RW standard. It can also write on DVD+R discs (write once).

There is another standard supported from different companies: DVD-RW (and DVD-R).

Some drives can write on DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs. All DVD+/-R(W) discs can store about 4.7 GB, compared to about 0.7 GB on a CD-R(W).
Reading all different DVD disc standards should be no problem.

SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc) is a new standard for digital audio. Studio quality audio is possible for stereo music and, more important, for surround sound (multi-channel). Only players compatible with SACD can read that information.

Most SACD available in stores have an additional partly transparent top layer with the compact disc digital audio information (2 channels, 16 bit, 44.1 kHz). Such discs are called hybrid discs and can be played on all conventional CD-players.

My Inspiron 8600 seems to be an exception. I have a NEC DVD+RW ND-5100A drive installed.

After all, it seems that I am the only person listening SACDs.
