Dell Dimension 8400 I need a dvd rom drive what do I need ?
Dell Dimension 8400.. I need a dvd rom drive what do I need ? I have a 5 year old computer at my store ...new software is dvd driven and I have a cd drive ...So my question is ..Should I just toss the whole thing or upgrade my dimension . I have already purchased a new dell for my home with all the bells and whistles ...and I have a dell lattitude laptop which also needs the same upgrade ...any advice is appreciated ....

I put in a dvd writer in my 8400 and it works just fine. Just make sure the pins are set to cable select I think it was, It is in the manuel for the computer about the setting. The pins are on the back of the writer.

My old Dim 8400 came with 2 dvd drives as a standard configuration. The Upper drive is a dvd rom and the lower drive is a dvd-cd writer. Check the computer to see if yours is the same.
