HD problem with new notebook

Two days ago I've received my a brand new Vostro. Yesterday I started to install the software. After installing "Hard Disk Sentinel" I saw a warning:

********************
The drive found 693 bad sectors during its self test.
Based on the number of remapping operations, the health of the disk was decreased in different steps.
There are 183 weak sectors found on the disk surface. They may be remapped any time in the later use of the disk.
It is recommended to examine the log of the disk regularly. All new problems found will be logged there.
********************

Booting with knoppix and running smartctl I've confirmed that the disk, after 2 day of use has rellocated sectors!!!! badblocks doesn't showme any error, but the S.M.A.R.T. errors (Reallocated_Event_Count, Current_Pending_Sector, Offline_Uncorrectable) went up!!

Now I have:
191 G-Sense_Error_Rate ..... 569
196 Reallocated_Event_Count ..... 1128
197 Current_Pending_Sector ..... 183
198 Offline_Uncorrectable ..... 693

The disk is a "SAMSUNG HM160HI". Since the Dell utilities doesn't detect any error, peaple at technical service told me that's the disk is OK and there is no way Dell will change it for a new good one.

Any ideas? Anyone have some "SAMSUNG HM160HI" to see if the values I have are normal? (I hardly think so!)

I've put the smartctl output in http://www.trimaxcba.com/~horacio/vostro1400/

Thanks in advance!

I have got the same problem with HM160HI. I have made an inquiery to the Samsung's service and got such an answer: It isn't normal. It is necessary to adress this question to the notebook's producer to have it checked.

Seems that I have exactly the same problem with the HM160HI in my Inspiron 1720 (second drive is a Seagate). The technical support (Germany) refused the replacement too, because the diagnostic utilities found no error. Although the error counts are increasing the drive still reports the 'quality' value of 100 instead of lower values (see below). Therefore most utilities (even Samsung's Hutil) say the drive is healthy. But I'm not sure whether I can rely on the diagnostic programs or not (I'm still making daily backups on my second internal drive).

ID    Attribute Description    Threshold    Value    Worst    Data    Status
C4    Reallocation Event Count    0    100    100    16710    OK
C5    Current Pending Sector Count    0    100    100    1109    OK
C6    Off-Line Uncorrectable Sector Count    0    100    100    2332    OK

Dell 6400n - Power_On_Hours = 112 hours

Inspiron 1520 - Power_On_Hours = 118 hours
