I6400/ E1505 Windows XP MCEdition Cannot save dvd's to computer w/Sonic

I have a I6400/E 1505 MCEdition.  Sonic multimedia came with the computer and is only a few days old. I cannot save dvd's to my hard drive, therefore cannot burn dvd's. When I try to copy dvd's using Sonic it usually says the disk is protected. I understand that much, but what I do not understand is why others who have Sonic and used this Community Board can save dvd's but I cannot get that far. 

 

 I did some research on the computer and I was lead to believe that if I changed the regional settings, saying I was somewhere in Europe then I could burn but I have not yet tried this. Can someone please help me?
