You can install one, but the playback won't be terrific if it's a Celeron or i3 system (you need a higher-horsepower CPU than that).

It will take a standard, slimline drive -- SATA interface.

You will need a DVD decoder package (CyberLink, etc.) if you're running Windows 8, which has no native DVD decoding support.

Apart from all of the links and descriptions of the exact type of drive needed in the thread above, what other information were you looking for?

I was looking to install a DVD/cd rom drive in my laptop. Dell Inspiron 15 3521 & was wondering what was compatible that I could install in this laptop. 

ejn63 posted a link to a compatible drive above. Try that.
