Inspiron 15R 5521 CD/DVD drive not recognizing any cd/dvd/blank dvd.. Help!

I received the Dell Inspirion 15R 5521 for Christmas and the cd/dvd drive will not recognize a brand new music cd, movie dvd, or blank dvd r to burn anything.  When I insert the cd or dvd it automatically starts and then says insert a cd, no cd/dvd present.   This is so frustrating because I've had the computer not even 48 hours and it's not working.  So upset!  Can anyone out there make suggestions on what I could do to possibly fix this issue??!!
