Wiping Hard Drive on Dimension 5100

I have a Dell Dimension 5100 which came with Windows XP Media Center Edition already on it. I then bought the Vista Home Premium Edition Upgrade and loaded it onto the computer. Recently I got a virus and I have been thinking about just wiping the hard drive entirely. My question is: If I do a hard drive wipe, will it erase the Vista OS and the XP OS (if it even remains, I don't know) off of the hard drive? If it does, will I be able to recover the XP OS so I can still be able to install my Vista Upgrade onto it? I am not sure if the computer came with any sort of disk with XP OS recovery files or anything.

When you erase [wipe] the hard drive, all the data, including the OS and virus are removed.

As you have the upgrade version of Vista, you would need a copy of XP as qualifying media.

You can request a set of backup discs containing the factory-installed operating system, specific to your system, from here.

What if your machine came w/xp media center edition.....you got re-install disk that doesn't contain the media center part... Is there a second disk that would just install that part?

In my case the ghost drive is gone so that's not an option.

My backup disk is Xp Pro SP2.

I reinstalled and no longer have Media Center.

Thanks

As far as I know, there is no second disc.

You can request a set of backup discs containing the factory-installed operating system as well as the device drivers and utilities specific to your system from here.
