can't install driver for CD/DVD drive

Hi All,

My CD drive no longer shows up in explorer.  I was able to boot off of the CD drive using the Dimension E521 Resource CD and I ran the diagnostics.  No error messages. However, when I boot up into Windows, the drive is not there.  Device manager recognizes the drive (TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-H553A) but has that yellow exclamation point.  Add hardware says that a more current driver does not exist.  I downloaded the latest firmware (R136549.EXE/SFDNWIN3.27.10.exe) and I tried to  install the latest firmware (553ADE04.BIN). When I first open SFDNWIN it tells me "Drive not found".  Then when I select the BIN file, it say that "This firmware is not compatible with the selected drive."  Also, tried uninstalling the drive from the device manager.

So, the drive works when not in XP but doesn't when in XP.  Any suggestions?

thanks!

z
