reinstalling mcafee 15 months subscription
Dear All,
I had recently purchased dell laptop inspiron with 15 months mcafee.I am able to see the subscription details for 15 months in mcafee website and it shows that license is purchased for 15 months.
my problem is that mcafee security centre shows "computer not protected" as DAT signature file is 8 and 29 days old.I read in mcafee help, tried to do automatic "fix",but still it shows "computer not protected".
i tried the second option of downloading MSCPRXFIX.exe and running and again restarting the compueter and again updating it,but still its not working out.
I am unable to install the updates it says i need to reinstall security centre.can i reinstall from CD again?will my subscription of 15 months still remain VALID?

If all fails, just install Microsoft Security Essentials.
It is free, requires no subscription whatsoever and uses far less memory than macafee whilst arguably providing better security.

Hi pvasati and welcome to DeLL Forums.
I suppose that you already register your McAfee Security Center. If not go here:
https://home.mcafee.com/Secure/Protected/Login.aspx
I see that you ran MSCPRXFIX.exe and it did not work, however, since Dell McAfee is slightly different, try Virtual Mechanic for Dell users:
http://service.mcafee.com/TechSupportHome.aspx?lc=1033&sg=TS
Other way to fix it would be to completely uninstall McAfee and reinstall it again. I do not particularly like to use the CD that came with the PC. So I would go to McAfee download program page.
To uninstall read the first article, uninstall tool:
http://service.mcafee.com/CustomerService.aspx?lc=1033&sg=CS&pt=1
To install and you have to be sure first that you are registered and second that no other A/V, malware, or firewall is running in your PC or the installation will say that such and such could not be installed because another A/V or firewall is already installed. I know that you have to go in bare nake it but I did it for two years several times to reinstall my McAfee.

Good luck

Hi pvasati.
If you can not make McAfee work and you do not mind losing your $40 you paid for it. You can choose any of these security programs recomended by BugBatter:
http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?topic=2333.0
Remember you only need one antivirus and one firewall active in your machine. You can have a couple of antispywares active and as many ondemand scans as you feel comfortable with.
Regards.

Hi All,
Thanks for posting the replies.
I have resolved the problem by unistalling Mcafee completely using mcafee software removal tool(availible in mcafee site) and then downloading mcafee from "my account" in mcafee site and then installing it again.
Its showing status as protected and all files are updated.
Any one facing this problem please dont install from CD provided with dell as it installs only trial version for 30days and not the full version.
