ESX 3.5 dead paths - CX3-80
I had a very interesting issue today. One of my ESX 3.5 servers (ESX15) had 2 dead paths out of 6. There should only be 4 paths, not sure why 6 were being shown. ESX14 has 4 paths that looked fine. Both servers have 2 x HBA's (standard ABAB zoning). CX3-80 showed 4 paths each, all logged in and registered.
ESX15 was able to browse the LUN, but was having issues accessing it (almost seemed as if it was locked). ESX14 could not even see the 2 LUNs. I tried rescaning, rebooting, etc. After a long discussion with VMWARE, we decided to trespass the 2 LUNs in question, and trespassed back. After this, both servers now have full access to the LUNs. The dead paths are still there.
Has anyone seen anything like this? How do you remove dead paths? Why would a trespass help?
The VMWARE Engineer is telling be there is a zoning issue or something with the Array, I disagree. Everything looks good, all logged in and registered. Looking for help on determining root cause.
