I'm running VMware 5.5 and have the Dell PSP set up on all of my hosts. On one host, I've set up the 2 iscsi port groups with the vmnics set to active/standby, and I'm working my way through the Windows VMs to get HIT/ME installed for MPIO on the iscsi data lun connections. I'm planning to set up my other hosts today or tomorrow.

I have some VMs for which I don't really need the mpio throughput gain. After the hosts have been set up in active/standby mode with the 2 port groups, what does that mean for the iscsi connection from any VMs that are only in one of the iscsi port groups? Does the active pnic for that port group become a single point of failure for a VM if I don't set up MPIO on it? If so, I can set up MPIO on those VMs, but I'd rather not if I don't have to because it's just one more software installation to maintain.
