Dimension 4400 upgrade and problem

Hi guys I have a Dell 4400 I want to know about upgrading and a problem.  First the problem, Every so often I get the Windows XP balloon pop up that says "Windows Virtual memory minimum too low.  Your system in low on Vritual memory Windows is increasing the size of your Virtual memoyr paging file during this process memory requests by some programs may be denied.  I have 256 MB of RAM and am thinking that if I pop in more memory that may fix the problem or at least lessen it considerably.  My paging file is already up to 466MB of my hard drive.  I have a 40 GB drive not that I'm low on space but still.  I saw memory on www.crucial.com 512 MB DDR for $99.  Now for the upgrade the system came with a 1.8 GHz processor can I take that up to a faster CPU or does Dell have something in the motherboard and/or BIOS that would prevent this?  Also if I choose to get a bigger hard drive or (God forbid) this one dies after my warranty expires which is less than a month away.  Can I just use any hard drive I so choose or does it require getting it from Dell?  Take care, Gary
