IRRT vs ATA

We have been receiving systems from Dell as of later that, in the BIOS, they are set to use IRRT when it is a single drive configuration of a workstation/laptop.

According to Intel (http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/sb/cs-026142.htm) this is used when you have a RAID setup for faster data transfer between drives of a RAID.

Why would this be the BIOS configuration for a system that is using a single drive? We have to change this to the ATA function before our image becomes functional.
