Aurora R10, can I add a second GPU?
I just recently purchased an Aurora R10 with Ryzen 3500 and a RX 5700 video card.
I am curious if I can add a second GPU? I am not sure what power supply I have. The GPU does not need to SLI or CrossFireX. I've read Alienware can have issues with heat as well. My unit is only air cooled. I looked at the motherboard and it does appear to have an extra PCIe x16 slot (the RX 5700 is currently in the other one).

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

The 1000w oem PSU has the cables for two typical GPUs although you would not be able to run two 2.5 slot cards or two 3090s.
You also have physical limitations.
I wouldn't run two GPUs off the oem 550w psu, can't think of any two worthwhile GPUs that you could run on a 550w PSU

R10's only have PCI-e 4.0 X 8 slots, full length slots. They do not have X16 slots that can be used.
Why would you want to add a second card, and why would it not need to be SLI or Xfire?
You could add a second one, if it fits, but what are you trying to obtain? If you don't already have another video card, it will be difficult to find one at a higher than usual price.
You would definitely have issues with heat, as the second card will be very close to the first card (If it fits)

You can fit a second card at the bottom of the Aurora chassis. This would require that you remove the two frames for the optional drives to gain clearance. Once you install the second card, you'll need to power it somehow. If you have something power hungry like the 350W demanded from the RTX 3090, even if you use the 1000W power supply upgrade, you may run into trouble keeping it powered. Yes, I know 350W x2 = 700W, which is less than the 1000W PS rating, but you also need to power everything else. If a power supply needs 20% headroom, that means the 1000W PS can reliably provide 800W.
So now we're at 100W for the CPU and 700W for two graphics cards. IF you need to power fans and memory, then you're over. You'd need a 1200W power supply to rig up 2 RTX 3090s.

The OP is probably asking with regards to mining. In theory you should be able to add a second card, or get a mining PCI riser and attach that way (mounting maybe externally). But the only way to know for sure is to do a test, and that would be expensive given GPU pricing right now. You should absolutely find out your PSU power capability before trying this.

Lets say power is not a issue and the second gpu is a 3080 do I need anything else ...or is it basically plug n play

I was able to run 3 x 3060ti (using risers). Somewhat plug and play but need to install 2nd card, boot and ensure device manager shows. If so, turn computer off and do it again. 2 gpu’s inside gets hot for alienware. Unlike my larger msi where I just keep the side cover off. Also get a corsair h60 cpu aio.

"3 x 3060ti"
You put 3 inside the PC or you have them on a rack outside the pc?

If you use risers on the top slot you would need PCIe 4.0 risers as the bios has no ability to switch to PCIe 3.0 for compatibility reasons.

Both SLI and Crossfire are being abandoned by NVIDIA and ATI. Sept 17th 2020
GeForce RTX 3080 lacks SLI connectors.

Ditto for 3060ti. Presumably for mining.

Mining set up is my guess. If so, you'd probably want to use a riser

You don't need SLI or crossfire, mGPU works wonders in the few DX12 games that support it.
