Aurora-R6, No power
It suddenly shut down last night and won't start again. The start button won't do anything, like it has no power at all. But I can get a green light from the back of PSU and all fans runs in full speed as long as I press the BIST (built-in self test) button on the back of the PSU. Is it a motherboard issue? How much should I pay if I want to order one from Dell because my warranty has expired? sad

Sounds like the Aurora-R6 models are "dropping like flies". :TongueTied:
I'm glad mine still works.

Thank you, I'm gonna try a new PSU first, do you have any suggestion for the replacement PSU? I got i7 7700 and GTX 1080ti inside.
If it turns out to be a dead mother board, I'm gonna buy a new case with motherboard and PSU to diy a new desktop with everything else that is still useful.

I ordered a new PSU that arrives the day after tomorrow. I'll keep you updated~
Should I change the battery too?

Good luck with that.
I test PC Power Supplies with a $20 "Digital Power Supply Tester".

I wouldn't change the CMOS battery. I know it didn't help my situation. We have CR2032 batteries sitting around like candy so it was a one minute quick try at a fix.
The power supply that came with the unit (it's the upgraded one because we have the 1080ti) has always made a small ticking sound. I don't trust it fully. Please do post back what you discover. Thank you!

Whoa! This just happened to me last night! Nothing when you hit the power button. Power Supply self test works fine. I replaced the CMOS battery. I'll take the whole thing apart tonight and check it out.
Bizarre timing! I noticed a user linked my request I made last night.
Very interested in anything you find out please!

my power supply has the same issue from day one as well !
As long as I'm running something on my computer, wired noise would come out from the PSU. I have been calling dell about this and they told me it's normal.......
Now once I plug the power cord in, there will be small current sound continuously from the power supply. And that's why i decided to try a new one first.

Also, what power supply did you order? I read online that Alienware uses proprietary parts and you must order from Dell. I never liked this power supply - it's the 850W liquid cooled one and it has always made a ticking sound. In retrospect I should have had them replace it on day one. And here's the list of what's in my configuration under Power Supply. Any idea what the actual part number is? 321-BCLS 850W PSU Liquid Cooled Chassis Part Number Description Quantity YWPVT ASSEMBLY, CHASSIS, PWA INTEGRATED, 850W, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY, OPTICAL DEVICE DRIVE, R6 1 F484V ASSEMBLY, BRACKET, THERMAL, LIQD, 95W, CENTRAL PROCESSOR UNIT, R5 1 J46J2 ASSEMBLY, HEATSINK, VIDEO RESOLUTION, CENTRAL PROCESSOR UNIT, 95W, R5 1 MH0HN ASSEMBLY, HEATSINK, CENTRAL PROCESSOR UNIT, 95W, L-COOLER, R6 1 GCK3F INSTRUCTION, DEV-TO-L5+, 850W, ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY, OPTICAL DEVICE DRIVE 1 P142N SCREW, M2X2.5MM, FLAT HEAD, MACHINE SCREW, C1018 2 3D4FK INFORMATION, CHASSIS, ANWFXCOLOR, ANDROMEDA 1 8R0PF ASSEMBLY, BEZEL, OPTICAL DEVICE DRIVE, WITH LATCH, R5 1 DU124 INFORMATION, EXTREME PERFORMANCE SYSTEM, 720, H2C 1 1W428 SCREW, 6-32X1/4 HEXHEAD I'd really like to go third party. I had read when I first researched the ticking problem that Alienware utilized two different manufacturers for their power supplies - one and one was decent. I guess I know what one I received!

Did you have any success?
I've been researching power supplies. My main fear is that Dell uses proprietary connectors in a couple places and I don't want to go piecing out cables.
I called Dell Out of Warranty Technical Support...they took all my information and will call me back "within 48 hours" for assistance. Ugh.
I saw online somewhere that they sell the Delta 850W power supply for $185. The EVGA and Corsair units seem like they are more reliable and better made and are $100. But then the cable nightmare.....

Disappointing news for sure since we had the exact same symptoms on the same day. I have a new Delta 850w coming from Dell tomorrow. I'll install it and see what happens.
I have renewed onsite support now so if that doesn't work I'll have them come out and take a look and report back here.
Thank you for following up.
