Aurora R9, switching cases

I have an Alienware R9 and I want to switch the motherboard to another case and I was wondering if there is an adapter for the led controller cable to a 8 pin power/reset/led cable?

Also are the oem gtx 1650s only compatible with this motherboard?

@Smart_Mo247  There have been a few posts over time on case swaps. From what I understand from others:

The power button wiring is non-standard and basically unworkable in another case without electronics skills.

The RGB is non-standard (proprietary) and no easy solution exists to that.

I may move to a P3 Core at some point, but I was thinking of trying to dremel out the entire front IO section from the existing case and then creating an identical shaped space in the Core P3 front panel to slot it in. That would get round the issue of wiring, but would require a level of precision that I am not sure I possess.

The alternative is to switch to a new motherboard, but I am not sure if your Windows install is keyed to the dell OEM motherboard or not.

Best of luck with your project. Please post updates!

You will run into an issue with the I/O shield. It is part of the case and does not confirm to a standard.

Because of this you would have to cut it out of your Alienware case and cut your new case to make it fit.

It's honestly totally not worth it to try and put this board in another case. You are way better off just getting another motherboard.

Re: are the oem gtx 1650s only compatible with this motherboard?

no, OEM 1650S can be used on other modern motherboard.

Re: R9 led controller cable.

you may use connect new case pwr sw +/- wires to R9 12 pin using user verified pinout for power switch.

“On R6, it was 3 n 4... and it's the same for R9 too”
