m15 R1, won't boot on battery after replacement

Question

Hello everyone,

I recently changed the battery of my Alienware m15 r1 with a non-OEM battery, as the old one was inflated and didn't hold the charge.

The new battery was said to be compatible with the model, with the exact capacity and voltage and had even the same printing as the old one.

The issue is that I can't boot the laptop on battery on full charge while it is possible when it is plugged. Once the laptop is opened, I can unplug and it hold the charge correctly. Even stranger, when the computer is low on battery, it is possible to restart unplugged.

In your opinion, what could be the issue?

If it was booting from the original battery -- it's one of two things:

1. The replacement battery is faulty, or

2. The replacement battery isn't as compatible as its manufacturer would have you believe.

Probably best at this point is to request a replacement of the new battery from the seller. If the replacement behaves the same way, order an OEM battery.

Hi @JBkm welcome to this user to user discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.

Dell laptops are renowned for rejecting poor and unreliable batteries. This is a good feature, because you want the laptop to work when not near to ac mains socket and/or you are not travelling with the ac adapter and laptop.

Purchase of a non-OEM battery that does not fully function is unfortunate and getting replacement from vendor may not happen because the item is as described. Even if replacement non-OEM battery is supplied, problems may persist.

The only recourse open to you is to get a guaranteed OEM replacement battery with one year warranty from a reputable vendor, such as Parts People , etc.
