m15 R2, not charging, power in
Hey,
I have been using my m15 R2 for a couple of years now and haven’t gotten any issues at all since I take care of it as much as possible. But, I now have this issue with the charger not working, at least that’s what I thought. I bought a new charger and it worked perfectly until couple hours into gaming it stopped working. Can it be a port problem or is it another issue?

Thanks for the replies! I went ahead and took my laptop to a repair shop, they tested all connections and it was working fine and receiving energy but the issue continued, so we tried once again to try the connection and the pin sparkled and basically burnt the pin, we were scared thinking that it would probably ruin the circuit/motherboard but hey, it looks like that solved my issue and everything started working just fine again.
My thoughts are that maybe a pin was a bit loose and the heat created by the sparkle maybe or somehow welded the pin back in place?
Either way thanks for the replies and if the same issue pops up again I will follow up with what you guys replied to!

(1) After a couple of years, the most likely culprit is that the battery has lost its capacity to hold its charge and should be replaced. Create Windows 10 Battery Report to determine if battery has reached normal end of life.

(2) Laptop without battery is designed to function as desktop powered by ac adapter. The ac adapter power lead diagnostic LED should remain on when connected to the laptop. Disconnect the battery, then plug in the ac adapter, this will test the ac adapter's ability to power the laptop.

Hi @DAPRangel when you say bought a new charger, is it a Dell charger (ac adapter)?
The Dell charger's dc plug has three connections with the laptop's dc socket. The power is on the inner and outer sleeves of the plug and the third connection is the central pin. This is not a power pin, rather it is a serial data line that interrogates the battery specification. If the wire to this pin gets broken or the socket on the PC is damaged then the charger can no longer identify itself to the laptop or check the battery. The result is that it may power the laptop, but will not charge the battery.

Go into Setup -- is the AC adapter listed with its power rating or showing unknown?
If it's unknown, the battery won't charge. Given your symptoms and statement, it's likely the DC jack is the issue.

If the AC adapter is detected, make sure the battery is as well. If it's not, replace the battery.
