copy / mirror / migrate experience?

I am adding disks to my SC8000 and planning to use encryption features.  This means I need to use the "migrate" function to move my VMware datastores aka "LUNs" to the new encrypted drives while the normal workload executes.

Any stories regarding success and/or failure of performing this type of action?  Perhaps some of you had occasion to use the migrate feature?

It appears that the data, when it migrates, will simply land on RAID-10 unless I take some action.  Oh well.

We have done several copy/migrate operations here without issue. The controller handles the migration "behind the scenes" and even applications with heavy IOPS have not noticed the change. When you do the copy/migrate you create and select the target volume, and if you wish this volume can be assigned to a replay profile without access to the Tier 1/2 etc... If you are in "Advanced Mode", you can also specify this replay profile cannot write to anything but Raid5/6 etc... We had this problem when we first imported all of our Hitachi / EMC volumes into the Compellent. The Online Storage / Assigned report showed half of my storage was allocated to Raid-10. We had to contact Copilot to remove these pages manually (often requires raid rebalance) which freed up the space to be allocated as Raid 5/6.

Thanks, Jonathan, for your input.  Perhaps someone else will chime in.  I should be performing these operations in my own shop with an upgraded sc8000 box so will post my experience.

we done hundreds of them. No issue at all. Only thing we've seen is a small latency increases while the copy is running, but nothing alarming.

On SC40 and SC8000 with similar results
