Equalogic PS4100E preventative maintenance
Our equaloic SAN is showing its age and we had a pretty scary situation last week. Our drives are set-up in RAID6 with a hot spare. 2 of the drives went bad at almost the exact same time, while we didn't have any replacements on site. So we had to allow for new drives to be shipped, installed, and wait for the array to reconstruct itself. While that was happening were worried that a 3rd drive could possibly go bad. Because of that, we want to do a complete drive replacement for all of the aging drives.
My question is, what is the best way to perform this task? Simply pull out 1 drive at a time, and allowing the array to rebuild itself fully before moving onto the next?
