Snapshot was set offline
Hi there,
I've got an interesting question. Does the Equallogic impose some sort of limit on how long a snapshot can stay online? Im having an odd issue with my backup software. I've got an hyper-v (CSV) cluster, and Veeam backup. I'm basically using an offhost proxy, which essentially uses the Equallogic VSS provider (HIT Kit) to create snapshot (for offhost processing of the VMs). The offhost proxy brings the snapshots online, and connects to it. In my case, all is working well for for the first 20/30 minutes or so. But after a while, the snapshot keeps going offline and/or deleted. The Euqallogic log is showing "Snapshot was set offline by the administrator". At the same time, Veeam has a warning "unable to create snapshot Dell Equallogic VSS HW provider". Veeam then retries, at which point it either creates a new snapshot, or brings the old one online (i think the former, but im not entirely sure, i'd have to pay close attention during the backup).
I've asked Veeam about this, and their response was that, if it was Veeam doing it by design, then i wouldn't have seen the warnings. In other words, Veeam would have expected for those snapshots to go offline. Is there a log of some sort (on the initiator side), in which i could see who is requesting for those snapshots to go offline/deleted?
