Stuttering/Buzzing Sound During Audio/Video Playback

Hi,

Recently I've been having some problems playing back any sort of media.  At regular intervals the audio will freeze/skip for a second and make a loud grinding noise, then resume.  This happens with music, streaming videos, games, pretty much everything.  If I'm watching a video or playing a game, the screen will freeze for a second, then resume.

I'm using an Inspiron 1545 with Windows 7 64-bit, SP1.

I've tried everything I could think of, updating all my drivers, reinstalling codecs, running anit-virus, and cleaning out my system.  I've found that sometimes the lag corresponds to spikes in my DPC latency, but sometimes they don't, and I can't find out what's causing the spikes.  I've tried most of the solutions here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/p/19142484/19265470.aspx#19265470 ,but nothing seems to have helped, and I'm getting a bit desperate.

Any ideas?

Yeah, so, removing the firewall is certainly not the answer!  Right now, I've given up hope of finding an answer, although I do still hope that one day, some update will take it away.  For now, my XPS8300 doesn't do it quite as bad--maybe one or two times during a two-hour movie, so, I guess I can live with it until some update takes it away..........

Force field.  Seriously, so now that your firewall is off, maybe your media files won't stutter, but you'll average 23 viruses. per week.  Lol

Yep,  this is the only thing that has actually worked!  Intel Rapid Storage Technology.  Download and install.

Hello ,

I got my dell XPS L502X, four days back. Everything was cool, untill the dreaded stuttering happened. This thread was the most comprehensive of all the discussions i have seen..to find solution..

So what I did??

Solution 1. Somebody suggested to do msconfig->boot-> select 8 cores..   I did that..and watched two hours movie without any stuttering..i thought the problem was solved..

But then ,,I was downloading a file from torrent..and simultaneously also watching a movie on vlc player..then again the "stuttering happened". So i closed my torrent and resumed the movie..it played without any stuttering. (So this was atleast a temp fix for me..that if i want to see any movie..or play any song..then i have to make sure that torrents are not working)..thats pretty non-technical..i guess experts here can interpret why this was happening but..it is just a temp fix!

Solution 2,Then somebody also suggested to turn off the network adapters (which has worked for quiet a few).So i went to device manager and I can see two adapator options there

(a) Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport adaptor (b)Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport adaptor#2...so I was confused which one should i disable??

Solution 3. To just make sure..i will try this option of Updating the Intel Rapid Storage Technology..driver..i could locate the 10.8 version.on intel site..but how can i find which RST driver version is installed in my system . And If i am right then for some people RST 10.8 version from Intel worked right. Can somebody guide me to how to install it..(I have not done any BIOS update.)

Solution 4. I hve also disabled McAfee firewall..(that solution does not work)

So from my experience..Solution 1 and 4 definitely don't work.

Can sombody be kind..to guide me in more detail with respect to Solution 2 and 3 regarding which adaptor to use and how to install the right version of RST driver on my xpsL502X

Waitng for reply,

Thanks.

Thank you , I have been trying to solve this for quite a long time. I knew it was software as no pops etc when using linux on same machine (Dell Studio 1745 Win 7-64).   Why could Dell not give this solution when contacting support? They suggest reloading Windows.

Hey, I am new today to this post because I am trying to find a solution to my audio (any audio) "skipping", which I think is the same as the stuttering that I am reading about. I have an Inspiron 1545 and this problem started with my itunes library a while ago.

On my inspiron 1545, it was the Intel matrix storage device that was causing the problem.  Once I updated the Intel rapid storage driver (10.8.0.1003 on the Intel download site), problem was solved.  Not everyone's cause of this problem has been the same, but since we have the same machine, I think your odds are good.

I'm having the same problem trying to play video with audio from the internet.  I chatted with Dell online and was told to contact my internet provider.  I don't think this is really the problem.
