Please help with Windows / Linux Dual boot. e7470. Where does bootloader go ?
Hi,
I usually run even older latitudes because they last so long.
This new bios is killin me. I used to put GRUB in the MBR. Now, these newer BIOS have safety features other places for bootloaders which leads to endless hassle.
I either end up with A Linux installed that I cannot boot because GRUB is somewhere that it should not be or I end up even worse where nothing will boot and I need to go back into the BIOS and hit defaults or change back to secure boot to even get windows booting again.
I am stuck
I currently have windows 10 installed and Mint Linux. I cannot boot into mint Linux as described
Where should the GRUB bootloader be installed and how should the Dell Bios be set to find it ?
Thanks !

Hi
Quite a few possibilities .....
The rEFInd boot loader is worth looking at.
Above is an old HP that had a SECURE boot option and a Legacy/MBR option.
So you would choose the use GrUB (2 or EFI) for secure boot and place it in the boot area alongside the Windows Boot Loader. This should be about 250 - 300 MB in size.
You can also make a tiny boot area for MBR, just a few MB and put the traditional grub in there.

I actually have 2 versions of openSuSE installed, as a precaution, Secure and Legacy.
