Installing Mandrake 9.2 can damage your LG CD-ROM

Just an FYI. You might want to add this to the FAQ as Dell uses a lot of LG/Goldstar drives.

Hi,

This was true for the first available edition of MdK 9.2
It's related to packet writing and LG misuse of ATAPI norms. (If I remember well)
Packet writing support was added in kernel because of popular ask.

An updated 9.2 version is available on Mandrake Club :

Note that Mandrake will use a different process starting with 10 series :

It would have been nice if Mandrake had mentioned this somewhere on the 9.2 download page. The cd-rom drive in my previous computer died because of this issue.

Oh well. Mandrake seems to have switched from 9.2 to 10.0 now, so this issue is not as important anymore.
