cannot run SMART Short Self Test
I've run Alien Autopsy twice with the same result "cannot run SMART Short Self Test. 've tried the online diagnostics... same result.
is my HD failing already? I haven't even had it 2 weeks!

Regular HD. No SSD installed. Ran PSA... passed. Must just be Alien Autopsy then!

Hello Generalmarkusparkus!
Do you know if the system has a regular hard drive or if it’s a solid state drive?
If you are not having a specific problem but you want to make sure you hardware components are working fine you can always run the PSA diagnostic.

For reading SMART, Crystal Disk Info (Portable ... has no OpenCandy) is my current favorite.

Thanks. Installed Crystal Disk and said it was GOOD... so I guess I won't worry about it!

On a spinning drive, Raw values for ID 05, C5 & C6 should report status "Good".
Sounds ok for now.
