Using Optical Out/Toslink for Audio
Hi all -
First post. I got my X51 yesterday and so far am very happy with it. I have connected my X51 via HDMI to my Samsung TV and get audio/video. However, I want to output the sound from it via my optical cable via the optical out port. The port emits the usual red light, and the cable has been confirmed as working. However, I get no audio.
What settings do I need to tinker with (guessing sound in control panel) to get the sound I am after?

If I remember correctly, you have to specify which output you are using, between the digital/optical or other output. I'm pretty sure I had to do this on my Aurora, because the default output was not the optical one.

I tried to enable the card as default but am having no luck. Called tech support, and they were not knowledgeable, suggesting that I even plug the TOSLINK cable into the regular 2.5mm jacks :p
Could you let me know what settings you used? Was it in control panel > sound?
Sorry for the hassle, but would be great to at least see the names of the selections you made.

Suggested to plug the TOSLING in the 2.5mm jack? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
As for the exact settings, I dont remember by heart, and I'm at work, I cant check :( I think it was on the setting of the card, you have an ôption to choose the output.. I will check tonight, and if you dont solve the problem by then, I will post a screen or something :)

Yes, you have to make that port "default" in Control Panel / Sound.
Also, if using HDMI straight to a TV with speakers, it might not like to use optical instead. If using optical, better to use DVI-1 port instead (not HDMI out).
So, no amp ? ... or your amp isn't HDMI compatible?

How is it hooked up exactly (see above).
I might not be able to help you further. Your English is so good, I thought you used English Windows. I can't read that, sorry.

When I right-click on the volume icon, I have this menu. Last option shoudl be in english "Volume control option" or something like that. It give me the menu behind where I can choose the output. I guess its there.

Well, I tried it..no luck. What I'm going to have to do is to try and connect via DVI though that's less than ideal. You would think a computer could tell when you have certain items plugged in

Because HDMI carries sound and DVI doesn't.
Computer gets confused. I'm talking from experience.

Ok, but even if HDMI carry the sound, should not be a problem, as long as you specify correctly which output to use.
The way mine is connected: HDMI for the image. (It was imperative to deactivate HDMI sound since there's speakers built-in my monitor.)
And optical cable to my Logitech speakers.
The computer will not figure out by itself which output to use.
BTW, everything is working fine on mine, so I dont know if your question are for Stazi (who has the problem) or me. ?
