Dim 5000 - Shutdown problem

I recently purchased a Dimension 5000 and pretty much in the first week I had issues where my PC shuts down without apparent reason with a blinking amber light.

At first I suspected it was my fan that wasn't functioning well, but the PC actually feels cool when it shuts down.
Then I did a full hardware diagnostic using partitioning tools. There it said my fan was working well, but that my DVDROM drive isn't working properly. I checked all the cables under the hood to see if they were attached securely (one of them wasn't but securing it didn't solve the issue). Then did a custom hardware test on my DVDROM. I recieved errors in the confidence test and in the read test. Everything else went fine.

Now back to the main problem: I noticed theres a thread with the same issues I've been having:
Shutdown and blinking amber light for the dimension 8000something series and there the solution seems to be to call for a new power supply.

The thing is, my pc generally shuts down more often when im using my DVDROM drive, so I actually suspect my problem is located in that area. If my problem can be solved in a more simple way than without ordering a new power supply, I'd gladly hear it.

I'd also like to know if any others with the Dimension desktop 5000 are having the shutdown issues like mine.

Specs will follow in a next post.
