I have read through some of the answers given to similar problems, and I have to say I don't understand them.  I follow directions very well, but don't know a lot about computer guts and how they work.  So please keep that in mind when you respond!

 

When I booted up my computer 2 weeks ago, I first received the "blue screen of death."  So I rebooted.  I then received the following message  in white letters on a black screen:

 

MEMORY READ WRITE FAILURE AT 00024C80 READ 00ED02ED EXPECTING 02ED02ED

 

The computer was locked up on that screen so I attempted to reboot.  When I pressed the power button, the lights came on for a few seconds and then went out.  I tried several times throughout a 12 hour period to reboot the computer with the same results.  I then left on a 2 week vacation to the Caribbean (the laptop was not taken on the trip).

 

Today I got home, turned on the computer and it seems to be working just fine.  Now I don't dare turn it off and I don't know what to do to fix it.  It is no longer under warranty, but of course I'd rather pay to have it fixed (if necessary) than pay to buy a new one.

 

I have an Inspiron 8200 that I use almost exclusively on AC power.  I have installed no new hardware or software in at least 6 months and my virus protection is up to date.
