Studio 1440 keyboard problems

Anyone else have this issue with the 1440?

About a year after purchasing the 1440, I find the keyboard input is wonkey.  While typing, the cursor will suddenly jump to a different line, or the enter key will fire off, or suddenly the keyboard will cutnpaste or delete whole sections of what I am working on.  This happens with a variety of programs, from Word to IE, to Firefox, etc, so its definitely an issue with the keyboard itself.  All drivers are updated, fully patched, etc.

Here's the caveat... when my girlfriend uses the laptop (she has tiny hands and a very light touch), she doesn't have any issues.  So its my ham fingers and heavy touch I suppose, to some extent.

Any ideas?  These problems make it very difficult to use this laptop as a writing device.  I wonder if there are any settings to alter the sensitivity of the keyboard?

Hi MichaelNNY,

Welcome to the community.

Well, in this case you can try to disable the scrolling option from touchpad settings and that may fix the erratic touchpad movement issue. You can perform the following steps to do the same-

1) Install the latest touchpad driver from the link www.dell.com/.../19 In order to install the appropriate driver, choose the correct OS in the operating system drop down and then install “Alps-Driver” located under the input option. Once done restart the system.

2) Then double click the touchpad icon located on the bottom right corner of the screen and click the hardware tab. Once done click “Scrolling Settings” and uncheck the enable box.

Let me know of the findings. Glad to be of assistance.

I have a Studio 155 laptop and have the same problem, but disabling scrolling isn't something I want to do. Is there a way to stop the scrolling/entering/deleting once it's in motion? I usually have this problem while using Word and have tried hitting escape, backspace, arrow keys, enter, clicking the mouse, etc. with no luck.

Thanks.
