P2722H, 2nd cannot be detected DP

Dear all, thanks for reading this thread.

Recently I upgraded my two monitors from ASUS VS247 (dual monitors, with HDMI and DVI connectors), to DELL P2722H dual monitors (with HDMI and DP connectors). I'm connecting these two monitors to two computers - one for work (Macbook Pro 13" 2019), and for home PC (Dell XPS 8500 with upgraded GPU GTX 1650). Somehow with my old setup, everything works fine (with the ASUS dual monitors and those two computers). Now after I upgraded to dual monitors of DELL P2722H (I'm connecting my Macbook Pro through one Thunderbolt to HDMI and one Thunderbolt to DP cables, and my Dell XPS 8500 thru HDMI-to-HDMI and DVI-to-DP cable. Somehow the Macbook Pro can recognize both new P2722H monitors, but the Dell XPS 8500 can only recognize the 1st monitor (connecting via HDMI-to-HDMI cable), NOT the 2nd monitor (connecting via DVI-to-DP cable). Does anyone know what might be the root cause? Thanks!

The GTX 1650 DVI out port cannot upconvert to a monitor DP in port. That cable is designed for one direction only =

PC video card DP out port --> DP to DVI cable --> Monitor DVI in port

According to the online P2722H User's Guide page 12, the P2722H has HDMI/DP/VGA in ports. So you would need to setup like this =

GTX 1650 DVI out port --> DVI to VGA cable --> P2722H VGA in port

@WHChuang  The answer above is correct, though not ideal. The correct part is that DVI output to DP input doesn’t work. Not every cable/adapter setup that allows you to physically make a connection at each end is actually a valid connection.

The less than ideal part is that there is a better solution than resorting to using the VGA input, which will result in reduced image quality because VGA is an analog signal. The better solution would be to use USB-C to DisplayPort (it’s not actually Thunderbolt to DisplayPort) for BOTH of the connections from your MacBook Pro to your displays. Then for the XPS, use an HDMI to HDMI cable for one display and a DVI to HDMI cable/adapter for the other. That is a valid cabling setup and avoids the use of VGA.
