U2415 HDCP error from 2015 15' MBP

Question

Hi,

I just got a brand new U2415, and played a movie on it from iTunes last night. I got an HDCP error about 10 minutes in. I'm using the supplied mDP -> DP cable. Is this monitor really not HDCP compatible? I didn't think any HD monitors weren't anymore.

I already looked in the manual and couldn't find the answer. Should I use HDMI -> HDMI instead? My MacBook Pro supports HDMI.

Yes, the U2415 is HDCP compatible. But Dell never tested/validated the U2415 on the proprietary Apple operating system or hardware. This will be best guess effort.

I would go ahead and try the HDMI to HDMI just to see if anything changes. Another option is to try reseating the mDP > DP cable or even another cable because it could have just been a weird handshake issue. HDCP can sometimes be a burden even when both devices are clearly compatible and you're following the rules :).

On a side note, I am honestly not aware of any Dell monitors that are not HDCP compatible in the last 10 or so years. You can also type U2415 and HDCP into Google and will see it featured in multiple reviews. HDCP has never been listed in our monitor User's Guides.

Thanks for the help Brad! I reseated the mini-DP connector on the Mac and this resolved the issue. Yes, I would've been very surprised if it wasn't. I did see the reviews of it saying it's HDCP compliant, but I'm wary of reviews. But I watched a movie last night and no error! Thanks again.
