Networker server of Linux
Hello,
Does anybody of you out there run Networker server on x64 Linux-based host. Management says it is sort of "corporate standard" in my new company. I got used to NW server running on either Solaris or Windows. Of course I checked NW compat list and made sure Linux is supported, but I'd like to here your opinions on how NW server runs on Linux boxes.

Just a word of caution, I noticed you were asking about VMware backups in another thread. If you are looking to integrate VADP backups in NetWorker, the VADP Proxy must run Windows. I use two VADP Proxies on Windows Server 2008R2, they are also Storage Nodes. Not quite as stable as I had hoped, but good performance.

Bancal,
As far as i know NetWorker is most stable and has excellent performance on Linux. I have have a number of NetWorker on RHEL.

Hello Bancal,
As you already know, NetWorker is supported on Linux. In general I have found NetWorker to perform better on Linux - less 'Windows' overhead. And the throughput seems to be better as well.
From the management console side, it is the same setup and is easy enough to use.
I would suggest putting together a dev environment of NetWorker. You can install and run without licensing for a while. The only hiccup may be backing to a physical tape library - sharing between two networker servers can be a headache.
Another option would be to build a NetWorker storage node and have that backup dev systems as a test. it is a non-disruptive test and will let you do an apples to apples comparison for speed, etc.
As a final note, if you are running NetWorker on a Windows system and you want to migrate to a Linux system, there is a process for doing that. Contact support and ask for their help in the process.
I hope this helps!

NetWorker server on Linux is fine.
I can confirm the statement of Mark. I had a box running NW server on Windows 2003-R2 x64 and changed to SLES 11 and the same box nearly doubled the performance.
It's running stable and NMC too.
Nothing more to say on this.
