absolutely nothing in the logs. N1548P firmware is updated, S4128F is not. Sorry, had no time to look at stats, whole cabinet was down effectively so busy putting temporary cable in place. What I haven;'t mentioned is this cross-connect (cable and optics) worked for many years fine with S4128F on one end and Dell Powerconnect 5524 on the other. The problem started after PC5524 was replaced with N1548P, also the link was reconfigured from 'access' (both ends) to trunk (both ends).
Is the firmware on both switches up to date? Do the logs show any errors? If you look at the transceiver statistics when they are down does it show that they are connected?
Same optics, same cable. But after first outage we replaced the cable (looks like local tech damaged it while checking), second cable worked for about 54 hours. Can it b eoptical module slowly overheating?
These are standard sfp optical modules and cables purchased from Dell about 3-4 years ago. Worked fine till we replaced Dell PC5524 with a new Dell N1548P.
Hello Alex, Can you check the Optical transceiver test on the N1548P side, assuming that there is no change on the S4128F-ON side and the reconfig is done properly? page 446 https://dell.to/3oYK6IP
By the way, as you mentioned in your previous post, I also suspect that optics can heat up slowly. Because when you re-insert, you stated that it was working for a while. Maybe you can also monitor the power on the optical modules on the S4128F-ON side, page 375 https://dell.to/327Sahw
Hi Erman, here is N1548P transceiver diagnostics results attached. I do see that this unit shows temperature of 47C (other 2 N1548 switches we have in other 2 cabinets show 31 and 36C).
If you could provide the part number Marco requested, it would be helpful. The information you have provided does not list the part number. You should be able to find it on a sticker on the SFP itself.
They can be, but we don't know whether they are or not in your case. You might consider reviewing the manual for the OS your switch is running, and using that to look at the switch's logs to see if that can provide further clarity. If you can provide what version you're running, I'd be happy to help you locate the appropriate manual.
Unfortunately I'm not at the location and can't find that information. The optics were bought few years back from Dell together with Dell PC5524. Are you saying it can be incompatible with N1548P? I'd understand if it completely refused working but failing after 2 days is different. Also, it was requested early to get power reading on the S4128F, unfortunately it does not support show inventory media wattage.
Hi Dylan, the N1548P is running latest version available couple of months ago when I updated it before putting it into production: unit active backup current-active next-active ---- ----------- ----------- -------------- -------------- 1 6.7.1.1 6.3.3.14 6.7.1.1 6.7.1.1
The PC5524 that was in production before (N1548 is supposed to replace it) have not been updated since purchase, shows version: Unit SW version Boot version HW version ---------------- ------------------- ------------------- ------------------- 1 4.1.0.10 1.0.0.14 00.00.02
Anyway, to remind: S4128 <—> Dell PC5524 link worked for 3-5 years fine (access mode) S4128 <—> Dell N1548P trunk worked for 2 days and went down
Now, to eliminate components one by one I was able to re-create original hardware configuration but with a trunk, i.e:
S4128 <—> Dell PC5524 as a trunk.
It has been about 24 hours so far fine.
Also, I was able to get optical modules part number (identical on both ends) - FTLX8571D3BCL
Now, I have to wait - if the trunk stays up for 2+ days then N1548P port is to blame (or module-port compatibility as you guys suggest). Otherwise I'll swap optical modules one by one.

Switching from access to trunk shouldn’t have caused it. Was it a new optic with the new switch?

Hi Alex 1112, could you tell us the description for
the cable part and the GBIC? It could be just a simple part issues?

Hello,
please can you check the part number of the transceiver that are you using? I will check the switch compatibility.
Thanks

Hello,
that's is a good troubleshooting step, let's see if with those optical modules it stays up.
Thanks
Marco
