File Transfer and Droped Wireless Connections

I have 2 wireless dell system with Linksys WMP54G wireless cards talking to a single d-link dwl-G700AP.  When I try to setup a printer or send a file over 100k, the wireless connections on both systems drop.  Both systems are running winxp pro.  Any ideas?:smiley happy:

Do you have any 2.4 Gzh cordless phones operating in the vicinity?  If so, try changing the channel on your access point to one of the extreme channels, 1 or 11.

I'm on channel 1, I'll try channel 11.  More news to follow.

Windows manages the WMP54G cards.  Stated in another way, I use windows xp network connection facilities to change settings.

Same behavior on 11.  Small files work.  It is just when the file sizes are 100k+  Even setting up a common printer causes the issue.  2 pc connect to a common ap.  One of the pc's has a usb printer connected.

Is Windows managing the wireless connection or are you using the wireless card's own utility to manage the wireless connection.  Try disabling the wireless card's utility and letting Windows manage the connection.

The "network connection facilities" is not the same as having Windows manage your wireless network.  Open the utility that came with the network cards and make sure that it is set to "Let Windows Manage the Wireless Network".  This is the Windows wireless zero configuration which does a very good job in Windows XP SP2.

Also, if you are running any encryption like WEP or WPA, try disabling this as a troubleshooting step.

Back to a question I asked earlier - are there any 2.4 Ghz cordless phones in the area?  If you right-click on the wireless connection icon and choose View available wireless networks, do you see any other wireless networks?

I have a 2.4 Mhz phone in the area and use WPA TKIP.  Let me try to down grade to another type of security.  I can see other wireless networks in my area.

Changed to open key and WEP, works great.  Thanks.  I guess TKIP has a problem.
