OS update and missing drivers - DELL INSPIRON 6000

I received a refurbished Dell Inspiron 6000 as a gift. The computer was originally XP but was updated to Windows 7. When I tried to connect to a network, I couldn't. I checked for problems and found out it was missing the wireless network controllers driver. I tried connecting it with a normal network cable and it recognized it but still couldn't reach the internet. I found the origional Inspiron 6000 drivers in the drivers section of the dell support website but I am unsure if they would work with a Windows 7 OS. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Stickybunz1,

Dell Inspiron 6000 was basically designed for Windows XP, you will not be able to find the drivers for Windows 7 in Dell support site.

To check if there are any windows 7 drivers for the Wireless card installed on your computer. I‘d need the Wireless card details installed on your computer. Please follow the mentioned steps below to find the Wireless card on your computer.

  1. Turn on or restart the computer.
  2. Immediately at the Dell logo screen, starting tapping the key once a second until the BIOS screen pops up.
  3. Highlight ‘System’ using the up arrow key or down arrow key.
  4. Press the right arrow key to expand the ‘System’.
  5. Using the down arrow key scroll down to ‘Device Info’.
  6. Please let me know the wireless card detail under ‘Mini PCI Device’.

Next to resolve the wired connection on your computer .I’d request you to provide some details. Please follow the steps mentioned below to provide us the details.

  1. Click on the Start button. In the search box, type ‘CMD’, and then, in the list of results, Right click on ‘CMD’. Click on ‘Run as administrator’  If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  2. Please type in ‘ipconfig /all’ and press on ‘Enter’ button.
  3. Please provide me all the information found under ‘Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection’, So that I could advise you the next step.
