Where does iDRAC get its time from?

My iDRAC's (7.00.00.171) are showing log entries 5 hours ahead of my local time. I tried setting time zone to my local time zone and also tried adding a valid NTP server, but nothing changes, even after reboot.  So how do you get iDRAC to show accurate log file time stamps?

Hi,

Just to confirm, you're using iDRAC 9, right?

Have you confirmed the date and time in BIOS are also the same local time? What OS are you using, have you also checked OS time. Have you tried soft reset the iDRAC, does it help? Is it possible to try a hard reset of iDRAC? Is the BIOS version up to date too?

@DELL-Joey C  Thanks for the tips. Yes, iDRAC 9, I'm at the latest BIOS v2.20.1. Soft reset of iDRAC did not help. OS time is correct.  Checked BIOS time and found the culprit!  Time in BIOS is +5 hours from local time. Not sure why there is a time zone/ntp setting in iDRAC if BIOS time is the source of truth?  but happy to have solved the mystery. For those that may have the same issue, boot server, Hit F2 to enter setup when instructed, Go into BIOS settings > miscellaneous settings > Time.  Thanks!

And one final thought, Never change anything in the BIOS unless you are certain of what you're doing!  :)
