OMSA - error while trying to log in
Hello,
I have a Dell PowerEdge R415 running Windows 10 Pro. I've just installed OMSA because one of the hdd failed. The problem is - I can't login into OMSA. I have 2 accounts (both of which have admin rights) - tried
localhost / 127.0.0.1 / 192.168.x.x as hostname/ipadress and both sets of credentials but all I'm getting is "Login failed. Connection error".
Well the service seems it's running (https://localhost:1311) works.
Any suggestions what should I try next?

Hello,
OMSA isn't supported for use in Windows 10 Pro. The installer may not have installed all the necessary services. If you open your Services view, how many DSM services do you see listed? There are 4 you'd want to see, so you might confirm you have 4 running services, as well. My reading of your post is that it may just be the 1 service you see. Let me know if this helps.

Is there any other option to replace a hard drive? (What I mean is - not using the OMSA to safely make a HDD go offline to replace it)

Hello,
So I've tried to reinstall OMSA based on Service Tag - Poweredge R415 gets version 8.5. However during installation (must have skiped that last time) I'm getting warning "The installer has detected a version of Windows Remote Management earlier than version 1.1. (...)" I've installed the WinRM and also did quickconfig but I was still getting the prompt. Option "(...) configure HTTP listener" wasn't working either.
So I've tried custom installation, but only option I get is "Server Administrator Web Server" - no more options are shown.
Can you name those DSM services?

Hello @patj,
Yes, as my colleague @Dell-DylanJ mentioned, I don't think OMSA is supported for Windows 10. For the PowerEdge R4150 is supported for Windows Server 2012 R2. You can check this document: Dell EMC OpenManage Software Support Matrix
So, if I understood correctly, you need to replace a Hard Drive. What is the current status of the Hard Drive? Is it Failed or Pred Fail?
If it is Failed you can safely remove it. If it is Pred Fail you need to set it as Offline first. You can use Support Live Image (a bootable tool with a custom CentOS that packages a collection of utilities and diagnostic tools including OMSA.
Dell PowerEdge: How to download and use the Support Live Image?
Or if it a Pred Fail, you can just turn the server off. Extract the disk. Start the server, check VD is degraded and insert new disk. Rebuild should start automatically. But, obviously, using OMSA is more recomended.
Hope this helps. Any other question, please, don't hesitate to ask.
Regards.

Okay, so amber light is blinking and according to manual it means that drive has failed. Does the brand new HDD need formatting before putting it inside the server or I can just swap right after taking it out of the box?
(btw. server has RAID5 setted up)

If the drive has already failed you can safely remove it (sever on) and insert the new one. Rebuild should start automatically (if not, you can "Assign as Hotspare").
However, you need to make sure the disk you will use for replacement is 100% a certified drive.
