Question 3200i

I been doing an upgrade to VMware 7 to an old infrastructure and I found the SAS card is not supported, due to the VMklinux is being depreceated in this release, I found there is a SAS12GBPS card and I can make it work with ESXi 7, but if it's possible I would prefer to upgrade the controller. But I don't know if the md3200i can support a 12GBPS controller upgrade I assume is not, but I would like to ask this first.

Thanks.

it may not be officially supported but that doesnt mean it wont work.

would also need new sas cables to convert from card to controller

There is NO controller upgrade for the old pvt 3200. You should look for MD 3420 for 12G.
Also replacing the heart of a SAN which is way beyond its EOS and years out of service it doesnt make sense money wise i think.

But the old 6Gbit SAS HBAs becomes unsupportet with the start of the Dell 13Gen. Poweredge and they offer 12Gbit SAS HBAs together with SAS HD-Mini to HD cables to attach old 6Gbit stuff.

Joerg

Btw.  the MD3200i is a ISCSI one and not the SAS one.
