RD1000 won't eject tape even when not connected to computer

I have an RD1000 that has occasionally not ejecting tapes.  When this happens pressing the button on front and well as ejecting the drive in windows does nothing.  The drive dismounts then remounts seconds later.  I also tried powering it down and then powering it up not connected via usb and pressing the eject button on the front and it still wont eject.  Any ideas?

Hello Jason Gordon,

You can use the Emergency Eject Hole that is above the cartridge to get your cartridge out.  Here is the link to the user’s guide for your RD1000 & if you look on page 7 it shows where the hole is located.  http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powervault/powervault-rd1000_user%27s%20guide_en-us.pdf

Since your cartridge is getting stuck & won’t eject when just connect to power only then you will need to get a replacement drive bay. If your RD1000 is still under warranty, then we can replace it.  If your RD1000 is not, then here is the Dell Part# 7GV6T for a replacement drive bay.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I used the emergency eject and i got it out.  Then when I hooked everything back up to the computer I was able to insert that tape and other tapes and they ejected normally.  So why did this happen?
Also Dell Parts give no results for that number

Hello Jason Gordon,

It is hard to say why the media got stuck.  If you have the RD utilities installed, then you can run the eject test to see if it happens again.
