Unique LUN for each disk in pool ???
Greetings to all,
I'm a bit confused by the LUN concept...
I have an MD3200, and I've created a disk pool with 6 virtual disks; they have not yet been mapped to a host. I intend to use these disks as onsite backup locations for nightly backups. This will be just one of several methods we will use for onsite backups.
My question is this: the mapping process gives me the chance to set a LUN number associated with each disk; should I assign a different LUN for each disk, or can I just leave each disk associated with LUN zero?
THANKS!

Hello Gizmonik,
You will want to assign different lun# to each virtual disk. If you assign the same lun# to each virtual disk, then you will get data corruption. Here is the link to the Administrator guide and if you look on page 97 it explains some of the differences between disk groups and disk pools. https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/common/md32xx_md36xx_administrator%20guide_en%20us.pdf
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for your reply! I have done some experimenting, and I noticed that the default LUN number was incrementing with each successive disk that I associated with the host.
