Dell Precision 7510 HDMI port doesn't work

After I enabled the "Switchable Graphics" option from the Bios settings, the laptop decided to totally disable the HDMI port for good, and now it doesn't even detect any external monitor.

What I've tried so far:

  • Enabling and Disabling the "Switchable Graphics" and the "Graphic Special Mode"options from Bios settings.
  • Recoving the same -and latest- Bios version for the 7510 (Precision_7x10_1.19.3).
  • Downgrading to the previous version (Precision_7x10_1.18.5).
  • Downgrading to version (Precision_7x10_1.8.3) which resolved David's issue for his laptop's DisplayPort (see his post).

I'm using Windows 10 and Ubuntu 18.04, and both behave the same; do not detect any external display.

@Dell-Vijay A, any clue?

Thanks!
Hassan

I have the same issue, but the laptop detects the monitor(s), (i have tried 3 different makes) but black screen on the monitor is all I can get. The laptop puts all open windows onto the monitor as first screen, but it is in fact screen 2, as far as Windows is concerned.

Precision 7510 Win 10 Pro and AMD Radeon M375 - all updates done.

Further to this, i have dragged an old Dell E Port dock out, and with this, I can get DVI connection which works fine to a second screen. I have tried multiple HDMI leads to ensure this isn't the problem with the HDMI on the laptop. I believe the port is not working since an update, but would like a solution

Have you had any luck with a response or found your own solution?

I am having the same problem with my 7510's HDMI port, although mine does still recognize that an external monitor is connected----it just won't display anything on it.   The 'external' hardware is all brand new and works perfectly on other laptops I have.  What is really odd about this laptop is that I used this laptop for 3 years at my office and at home with multiple monitors and never had any problems whatsoever.  I ended up purchasing this laptop from my employer when their lease was expired, and brought it home for the family to use and we did so for many months without issue, although we never had a reason to hookup a second monitor.   Then, I decided to set it up on a dedicated desk and get a new big monitor for it for anyone to use, and suddenly the external display wouldn't work.  But I had changed nothing on the laptop other than remove some of the previous software.

So, I decided to try some different configs, and here is what I found:

First I pulled the latest updates from Dell, including the newer BIOS, but there was no change.

I tried different options in the BIOS, but there was no change.

Next, I used a monitor with DisplayPort connection, connecting to the mini Display port on the laptop, and that does work.  Instantly.   (This method eliminated the HDMI port, but it certainly proved that Windows is still working with the external monitor along with the BIOS settings.)

Next, I tried booting the laptop to a USB  Debian OS, with the HDMI monitor and cable, and Debian recognized and displayed properly on the monitor without a problem.   This was the brand new monitor and HDMI cable that I purchased, so certainly the HDMI port is capable of displaying the requested output.

I plan to test the HDMI config again, after having success with the DisplayPort, just for grins.  I will update this thread with results.

Oh, for record:  Win10 Professional, 16GB Ram, SSD.

Regards,

Steve

Should have also mentioned that the monitor is a Dell, and Windows device manager had the correct details on it immediately.  I had played around with all the device drivers for the display adapter and the monitor, all to no effect.  Every time, however, Windows immed recognized the correct monitor details and the display options showed the 2 monitors correctly.

Regards,

Steve.

Thanks Steve

In case it helps, I moved my laptop on to Windows 11 with total success although not apparently supported.

Only to find that the HDMI still doesn't work.

My feeling is that the port hardware needs a driver that works with some change made in Windows.

I would still like Dell to give us a solution.

Ciao

Well you can try the following fix it might help you out in fixing the of HDMI port not working :

1. Check your Hardware
2. Restart and Reconnect your Devices
3. Set your HDMI Device as the Default Device
4. Remove Recently Installed Software
5. Configure your Computer's Display Settings
6. Update or Reinstall your Graphics Driver

Hi Steve513, I have the exact same problem with my Precision 5540. HDMI used to work fine, but now it only works on Linux (Rocky Linux 9 in my case). On windows it flickered once and then stopped working. Same monitor works with the same cable and a USB-C to HDMI adapter. When I connect the laptop to my TV via HDMI on windows, it goes on and off every second or so, on Linux all is fine. I wouldn't believe it if I couldn't see it myself. Last desperate measure was to install a fresh Windows on an USB drive and boot from there, to exclude driver issues, but: It's the same! Can an HDMI port go broken in such a way that it still works fine on Linux but stops working on Windows? I'm confused. Did you find a solution?

I have check the Intel & Nvidia drivers.

When a monitor/device/TV is connected Windows displays a unknown display on his identify page.

The port works technically (on connecting devices, they react 'no data')

I think it is a driver issue and searchingfor a older version of intel driver.

I have the same issue too, it was working when I first got the machine (7510) but after I got is setup and updated the BIOS and drivers it stopped working. I also tried the BIOS options to no avail. I tried a bootable linux but there seems to be no output on that either.

The windows shows the screen connected, but the LCD shows no signal. The LCD and cable are fine as it works on other machines and on different ports of this machine eg DVI to HDMI adaptor on Docking port.

I've also tried driving the port from Intel HD and NVIDIA options.

The laptop successfully outputs on all other video out possibilities:

- LCD

- Micro display port (next to HDMI)

- Docking port VGA

- Both docking port DVI and display port

- USB-C display adaptor

- USB-A VGA adaptor

It is only the HDMI which is failing, and it is frustrating as that is the one I need to present with when on the move.

It would be great if anyone has a solution.

I also tried downgrading and un-installing drivers to no avail.

An interesting appendum. I just ran the Intel driver detect and update. There were a few non-video things to update so I did those and re-started. The HDMI port did come up, but the colours were inverted.

I could change resolutions etc, but as soon as I unplugged the re-plugged the HDMI cable, it no longer worked.
