Your advice was SO helpful. It was very easy to understand. Thank you.
I have an old faithful 1600n that has had the same ink cartridge for 12 years and going strong once again!!!
I downloaded and extraced per instuctions and went in to add new printer..."The printer isn't listed"....."add using tcp/ip". I had already done a test search for the exact printer file I needed and therefore hit "Have disk" and went searching under C Dell Drivers etc...SPL....blah blah
To find your printer address it will help to have the setup page which I found under...I went under printer setup which is found under Menu 6 arrow to system data...Select..the 1600 will spit out a one page report. Now this is for networked printers. That assumes your 1600n is connected with a cable to a switch or the router of course.
I hope this helps the people that are not tech savvy. This old beast has lots of life in it and the ink does not get damaged from sitting. It prints as good as new. Can it be true that this thing is 15 years old??
Many thanks to the internet where a simple search bring this in the top 3 results on Yippy.com
I have this same problem. I have an MFP 1600n that has been stored away for years but has hardly been used. My current printer broke & I hooked the 1600n back up. I am now using Windows 10. After some effort I got the printer to show up in the devices with the correct model, so it recognizes that it is hooked up, but when I tried to print a test page, it gives me an error message. The test print job is listed in the printer jobs box, but it says error beside it.
I ran the troubleshooter but it never finds anything wrong. I understand computers somewhat but not like an IT person would.
Could you please list the step-by-step instructions of how to make it work?
This printer was made for Dell by Samsung so I just downloaded the Samsung Universal Print Driver from cnet & hey presto after several dormant years she sprang to life !! Absolutely delighted. I am using Windows 10.

Download the Dell 1815dn driver for Windows Server 2008 x64 here:
www.dell.com/.../drivers
Yes, the 1815dn driver to use with the 1600n.
Extract the file and dig down to here:
DELL_MFP-LASER-PRINTER-1815D_A02_R240574\Dell1815dn_Driver_ONLY_Win7(64bits)\Drivers\Printer\SPL\WINXP_VISTA_64
Do NOT choose the Printers\PCL driver. It won't print from IE or Firefox.

You mention connecting the computer to the router with a cable.
I have my laptop connected to the printer; the router connected to the printer.
Is this incorrect? How should I refigure the cables in order to download a driver for Windows 10 and my Dell 1600n?
Thanks.
