Wow. I think I'll watch Ebay and other places instead. Yeesh.
What kills me is that I bought three 3100cn printers - one in March, April, and May for three different offices and now I can't find the duplexers. Gotta love that fast product development cycle.
The link given by Gina is is specifically designed for use with Dell™ Color Laser Printer 3110cn. I don't hink it will work with 3100cn. The link I provided is for 3000cn or 3100cn and that may be the reason for unbelieveably higher price than the cost of the original printer!! Also, the price quoted in my link is in pound sterling and so to convert it in USD you will need to multiply by 1.6. For export orders to non EU countries, you get an appropriate disount as you are not liable to Value Added Tax (same as Sales Tax). The discount works out at (17.5/117.5). But the shipping costs may be extra.
The link I provided for the duplexer will work for both the 3100 and the 3000. It will NOT work for the 3010 this printer does not have a duplex option.
The link and part Gina Q provided above is for the the 3110cn printer only!!!!
The 3100cn duplexer can only be purchased through Dell's Spare Parts Department @ 1 800 357 3355... and the part number for the 3100cn duplexer is D5672
Update: Gina and Dell Technical Support are WRONG when they say the 3110cn duplexer works with the 3100cn (and Ian was right about this in a prior post). Based on Gina's twice-stated assurances along with pre-sales verification from Dell T-S, I got a 3110cn duplexer for $200, and there's NO WAY it will work.
The 3100cn duplexer is really a new back to the printer; it is quite large, hangs vertically, and drapes over the top (kinda like the letter F without the center post). In contrast, the 3110cn duplexer is small and appears to lay horizontally inside the paper tray area. Dell's Laser Printer support group confirmed this and apologized (Robert, x445 3775).
Bad news: Dell no longer offers this part, and it's not even available thru its Spares or Parts Dep't.
Good news: I just got a working, refurbished unit for only $241 including shipping from http://www.circlecomputer.com/. Use the part number Ian provided (Dell D5672). The people there are very nice and their shipping is fast. Good luck!
PS I wasted almost an hour on this, so I'll add it here in case anyone else gets this problem: In the LCD, you see error message "Close reg cover" and it won't power up.
When you replace the back cover with the duplexer, it's easy to remove the "registration cover" as well. The back cover is gray, very flat, and has a soft black (acoustic) backing on it. The black rigid plastic registration cover is a separate piece and is FIRMLY attached to the back cover, but you must separate the two. The key is pushing the round blue buttons on each side of the registration cover (as stated in Installation Instruction #2); it also helps to push the two pieces apart from inside the back cover's recessed handle.

The part number you should search for is #310-8100. I've included the link to purchase the duplexer.
