I'm seeing 2 issues (1: Not being able to print duplex & 2: printer offline).

#1: Not being able to print duplex

Printing anything is really determined by what commands are sent by the application, driver settings, and finally device settings.  If one application is able to print in duplex and another application cannot, then it could be the application in question that is controlling the duplex settings.  If the application in question does not have a duplex setting, then the next place to check are the driver settings.  If the driver and application does not send down a request to duplex the print job, then the device setting will determine whether or not to duplex the print job.  You should experiment and check the 3 different places.

#2: Printer offline:

Typically, when a Windows printer status is showing "offline" the I/O link between the host (PC) and the printer is disconnected.  Here are my suggestions:

1) power-cycle the host and the printer

2) If #1 does not resolve the issue, then you need to look at the driver port connection to the printer.  The general process to check this is to go to the  Windows control panel - Printers --> Right-click on the printer driver --> Printer Properties --> Ports

3) If you are still stumped, then may be the simple option is to remove all the old drivers and re-install.

Thanks for replying but duplex is specified in printer properties in Office 2013 and Adobe.  I even took a non network printer that was printing duplex and now does not.  Only new information is that I am on a 2012 R2 exchange server.
